Painkiller

Every once and a while, a girl needs to get a little tropical. And, there was no better occasion than last night’s friends and family opening at Painkiller.

They featured three classic tiki cocktails from their menu including: Mai Tais, Zombies, and of course, their namesake, Painkillers. I got a chance to grab a sip of all three, and they were all incredibly refreshing in the hot bambooed space. Of the cocktails, I most enjoyed the Mai Tai, but it’s the only one I actually got to finish. Other (more diligent) bloggers, will hopefully post photos of the glassware which in true tiki style was fantastic.  The drinks were certainly as potent as they were palatable- something I noticed when a few old pro drinkers turned tipsy after one and a half cocktails.

Fortunately, I got in there before we hit capacity and slipped into a booth with Rocky Yeh, Mindy Kucan, Christina Andrews, Carmen Carroll and Rachel Kim (I know, I’m a lucky girl). But, before we sat, I took a spin through the tiny space which has been completely revamped since its last incarnation: East Side Company. The walls are, as expected, covered in bamboo and tikis, but with the added element of graffiti, which is a nice NYC insinuation on the tiki institution.

I look forward to going back once they’re officially open.
